Special Place: Winter’s Ranch
View from Historic Winter's Ranch
This 69-acre Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA) nomination is situated on the western edge of Washoe Valley immediately north of Bowers Mansion Regional Park and represents the final piece of the historic 2,000 acre Winter’s Ranch acquisition project. Portions of the historic town of Ophir may be located on the property. The area represents on of the earliest sources of lumber to support the Comstock boom in Virginia City. Critical deer winter range exists on site for the resident deer herd and is extremely valuable especially after recent wildfire in adjacent areas have destroyed much of the existing habitat. This nomination would provide recreational opportunities for hiking and non-motorized access uses.
Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act
We’re pleased to be working with Carson City, Douglas County, Washoe County, and the owners of a number of properties for public acquisition through Round 5 of the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act. Contact us for more information on how you can support these critical nominations. If successful, the nominated lands would be purchased for the public, access made permanent, and the natural and historical values of each parcel protected.
